Guangdong firm buying football players

TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Among members of the Guangdong delegation now actively making purchases in Taiwan, the Guangdong Qian Se Hua Chemical Co., Ltd. has a special mission — buying football players from the island to enhance the firm's futsal team to score better performance in the Pearl Super League competition.

Huang Dachang, chairman of the paint maker, visited the Taipei Futsal Association on Tuesday night to discuss with association officials over “buying” six futsal players from the association.

Fond of playing football since his childhood, Huang came to Taiwan to purchase futsal players from Taipei, mainly because he was shocked to see the outstanding performance of the Taipei fustal team, which defeated all its competitors during its tournament tour of the Pearl River area in early July.

Huang said the excellent performance of the Taipei Futsal team attracted the attention of the Chinese Football Association. As quite a few futsal teams in the Pearl Super League have introduced players from abroad, Huang said his company can introduce players from Taiwan to effectively upgrade the overall futsal techniques of the Pearl Super League.

During the first tournament organized by the Pearl Super League in 2009, the Huang's firm's futsal team managed to win fourth place in the competition.

With six players from Taiwan joining the firm's team, Huang vows to win the first place in the second competition this year.

Futsal is a variant of association football that is played on a smaller playing surface and mainly played indoors. Its name is derived from the Portuguese futebol de salao and the Spanish futbol de salon (colloquially futbol sala), which can be translated as “hall football” or “indoor football.” During the sport's second world championships held in Madrid in 1985, the name futbol de salon was used. Since then, all other names have been officially and internationally changed to futsal.

Futsal is played between two teams of five players, one of whom is the goalkeeper. Unlimited substitutes per team are permitted. Unlike some other forms of indoor football, the game is played on a hard court surface delimited by lines; walls or boards are not used.
