First-place Columbus lost for the first time since June 20, but still holds a one-point lead over Chicago in the Eastern Conference. Richards scored his third goal of the season off a spectacular run following a Columbus corner attempt in the 63rd minute. He ran 50 meters, eluded midfielder Brian Carroll and fired a right-footed shot past goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum. In Sunday's other match, French defender Julien Baudet scored his first goal of the year in the 55th minute to give the Colorado Rapids a 1-0 win over Houston Dynamo. Playing in his first game since breaking his left forearm last month, Baudet was standing in front of an open net when he received a corner from Morocco's Mehdi Ballouchy and buried a header past goalkeeper Pat Onstad.
