Raul resigned to being left off Euro 2008 squad

MADRID, Spain -- Real Madrid captain Raul Gonzalez has hinted he will not be included in Spain’s squad for the European championship. Asked about his plans once the Spanish season ends on Sunday, Raul made no mention of next month’s tournament in Austria and Switzerland.

“My main aim is to rest and gather my forces for next season,” Raul was quoted as saying by El Pais on Friday. “Next year will be a very long and demanding season as they all are at Real Madrid. After winning the past two league titles much more will be demanded of us.” Raul is Spain’s all-time top scorer with 44 goals in 102 international matches, but hasn’t played for the national team since a 3-2 qualifying loss at Northern Ireland in September 2006.
