AEK holds Panathinaikos to 1-1 draw in final playoff

ATHENS, Greece –– AEK Athens held Panathinaikos to a 1-1 draw Wednesday in the final rou

nd of the Greek playoffs for European competition places.

Panathinaikos had already secured a spot in the qualifying rounds of the Champions League by finishing at the top of the four-team playoff group, and AEK was already assured of second place and a spot in the UEFA Cup.

Tam Nsaliwa scored with a long drive in the 51st minute after Marcelo Mattos had given Panathinaikos the lead in the 26th.

Panathinaikos fielded a substitute squad and played the last 25 minutes with 10 men after defender Philippos Darlas was sent off for a reckless tackle on Michalis Pavlis.

Also, Aris drew 3-3 with Panionios. Aris faces champion Olympiakos in the Greek Cup final on Saturday.
