Japan's Hidemasa Sano won the 200-yard individual medley in 1:43.79, holding off Austria's Markus Rogan (1:45.69) and American Robert Margalis (1:47.40). Former Olympians Matt Grevers and Katie Hoff have won the top overall awards at the meet, which ended with Michael Phelps' gold medal in the 100-yard butterfly. The Grand Prix wrapped up with Phelps winning three of his five events. Phelps beat Japan's Masayuki Kishida in 45.68 seconds in the fly. Local swimmer Jessica Hardy set the meet record with 58.99 seconds in the 100-yard breaststroke, barely beating Rebecca Soni (59.00). Ariana Kukors later set a meet record in the 200-yard individual medley, finishing in 1 minute, 55.05 seconds. Grevers won five gold medals in Long Beach, while Hoff had the women's highest point total. Chloe Sutton won the women's 1,650-yard freestyle with a time of 16:10.85, while Zane Grothe won the men's version in 15:11.89. Grevers, a two-time Olympic relay champion, won five gold medals in Long Beach, adding the 100-yard backstroke, Monday night, with a winning time of 45.97. Hoff had the women's highest point total over the four-day event. Long Beach was the second stop of the eight-meet USA Swimming Grand Prix, which continues in Columbia, Missouri between Feb. 12-15.
