Taiwan bags four golds at youth badminton event

TAIPEI -- Taiwanese players sparkled in all four divisions of an international school badminton tournament being held for the first time in Taiwan and in Asia, sweeping the four golds at stake.

No team had achieved the feat at the biennial International School Sport Federation World Schools Badminton Championship since China in 2006.

Taiwanese students from Neng Ren Home Economic and Commercial Vocational High School in New Taipei beat a Chinese team in the boys selected team finals, while a team from Taipei Municipal Datong High School defeated China in the girls selected team finals.

Players from Kaohsiung Municipal Kaohsiung Senior High School won the boys school team finals over a French team, and students from New Taipei Municipal Hsinchuang Senior High School topped a Chinese team to take gold in the girls school team event.

The biennial competition, which was held May 6-11, was attended by competitors from 16 countries.
