Russians Malyshko, Zaitseva prevail at biathlon World Cup

Malyshko followed up his win in Saturday's sprint by shooting cleanly to win the 12.5-kilometer pursuit in 32 minutes, 22.9 seconds, beating teammate Evgeniy Garanichev by 42.1 seconds.

“This was probably the best race that I ever ran,” Malyshko said.

Garanichev, who also placed second on Saturday, missed one target but finished 7.8 seconds ahead of Ondrej Moravec of the Czech Republic, who shot cleanly.

Norway's Emil Hegle Svendsen missed five targets before finishing fourth, 1 minute, 4 seconds back.

Earlier, Zaitseva overcame three missed targets to win the women's 10K race for her first Word Cup win of the season.

Zaitseva missed two shots in the second prone stage and another at the first standing stage, but shot cleanly in the next to finish in 32 minutes, 1.9 seconds.

Veronika Vitkova of the Czech Republic was 25.9 seconds behind in second for her first podium finish, while Valj Semerenko of Ukraine was third. Both missed one target.

Norway's Tora Berger uncharacteristically missed seven targets but still managed to finish fourth, 36.8 seconds back.

Germany's Miriam Goessner, who won the 7.5K sprint on Saturday, missed all five shots at the first stage, and then five more to finish 10th.

After 10 of 26 events, Berger still leads the overall standings on 485 points, followed by Goessner on 377. Andrea Henkel of Germany is third on 356.

Martin Fourcade of France leads the men's standings with 444 points, ahead of Svendsen on 398, Russia's Evgeny Ustyugov on 364 and Malyshko on 324.
