Guo had won the opening round of the World Cup at Manchester, England last month, beating Meares in the quarterfinals. Netherlands Willy Kanis beat Australian Kaarle McCulloch by two heats to one in the ride of for bronze. In other women's events, Britain's Wendy Houvenaghel beat Alison Shanks of New Zealand in the 3,000-meter individual pursuit, reversing their finishing order from the last world championships, while Russia's Evgeniya Romanyuta won the 10K scratch race from Italy's Giorgia Bronzini. Australia's Cameron Meyer rallied from a lap down to edge Ioannis Tamouridis of Greece in the men's 30K points race. Both riders were equal on points, but Meyer won the gold medal because of his better position in the final sprint. New Zealander Jesse Sergent won the 4,000 individual pursuit from Australia's Rohan Dennis. Vitaliy Shehedov of Ukraine took the bronze from Dutchman Levi Heimans.
