Olympic champion Wariner beaten in Sydney 200m

SYDNEY -- World and Olympic champion Jeremy Wariner was beaten by Australian Daniel Batman in the 200 meters at the Sydney athletics Grand Prix meeting at Olympic Park here Saturday. Wariner, the big name on the program after the withdrawal of 100m world record holder Asafa Powell with a cut knee, finished second to Batman (20.81 seconds) in 20.93. The Texan’s top event is the 400m, in which he is the reigning world and Olympic champion, and he seems far from peak form ahead of the Beijing Olympics.

In the men’s 100m, Australian Matt Shirvington and world championship silver medalist Darrel Brown of Trinidad finished in the same time of 10.43 seconds, but Shirvington was given the victory after a review by officials.
