Crosby's hat trick leads Penguins over Canadiens

PITTSBURGH -- Sidney Crosby's third career hat trick helped the Pittsburgh Penguins became the first NHL team to 10 victories this season, and ended the Montreal Canadiens' four-game winning streak by 6-1 on Wednesday.

Crosby had his third multiple-goal game in 12 starts this season for Pittsburgh. Chris Kunitz also scored and assisted on all three of Crosby's goals. Mike Rupp and Alex Goligoski added goals, and Bill Guerin had three assists.

Marc-Andre Fleury made 23 saves, allowing only Tomas Plekanec's power-play goal.

Avalanche 3, Flames 2

At Calgary, Alberta, Wojtek Wolski broke a tie at 5:31 of the third period, and Craig Anderson made 30 saves to help Colorado reach 10 victories.

Wolski scored his team-high eighth goal, beating Miikka Kiprusoff with a wrist shot from the high slot. Anderson has started all 13 games for Colorado (10-1-2).

Islanders 3, Rangers 1

At Uniondale, New York, Islanders captain Doug Weight, in his first game back following a bout with swine flu, earned an assist on Kyle Okposo's tiebreaking, power-play goal late in the second period.

Matt Moulson and John Tavares also scored, and Dwayne Roloson stopped 34 shots in the Islanders' first regulation win of the season. P.A. Parenteau, in the Rangers' lineup only because top scorer Marian Gaborik sat out because of an undisclosed injury sustained two nights earlier, scored his first NHL goal.

Blues 5, Hurricanes 2

At Raleigh, North Carolina, David Perron had two goals, Yan Stastny and Jay McClement scored 16 seconds apart, and Chris Mason made 34 saves for St. Louis.

Andy McDonald also scored for the Blues. Joe Corvo and Scott Walker scored for Carolina.

Sabres 4, Devils 1

At Newark, New Jersey, Clarke MacArthur and Tim Kennedy scored early in the first period, and Ryan Miller made 31 saves to help Buffalo improve to 4-0 on the road. Coyotes 4, Blue Jackets 1

At Columbus, Ohio, Martin Hanzal, Zbynek Michalek and Robert Lang scored power-play goals, and Jason LaBarbera made 31 saves for Phoenix.

Senators 4, Panthers 3

At Sunrise, Florida, Nick Foligno and Jarkko Ruutu scored in a 38-second span late in the second period in Ottawa's win over Florida.

Mike Fisher and Daniel Alfredsson also scored, and defenseman Filip Kuba added two assists after missing the previous eight games because of a lower-body injury.

Predators 4, Wild 3

At St. Paul, Minnesota, Jerred Smithson scored a short-handed goal midway through the third period to give Nashville its second regulation victory of the season.

Stars 4, Maple Leafs 3, OT

At Dallas, James Neal scored for Dallas with 2:03 left in overtime, beating Toronto rookie Jonas Gustavsson off a rebound.

Brad Richards scored twice, Mike Ribeiro added a goal, and Marty Turco made 33 saves for the Stars.

Sharks 2, Kings 1, SO

At San Jose, California, Ryane Clowe scored in the sixth round of a shootout, and Evgeni Nabokov stopped Jarret Stoll moments later to give San Jose the victory over Los Angeles.
