Tiger Woods 'is getting help' for his medication use

Golf legend Tiger Woods said Monday he is receiving help to manage his use of pain medication.

"I'm currently receiving professional help to manage my medications and the ways that I deal with back pain and a sleep disorder," Woods wrote in a statement posted on Twitter.

"I want to thank everyone for the amazing outpouring of support and understanding especially the fans and players on tour."

Last month, Woods was arrested for driving while intoxicated after police found him asleep behind the wheel of his car near his home in Jupiter, Florida.

Officers involved in the arrest described him as "slow, sluggish and very slurred."

Woods blamed his condition on an "unexpected reaction" to prescription medication but apologized and took "full responsibility" for his actions.

"I didn't realize the mix of medications had affected me so strongly," Woods said.

In April, Woods underwent a spinal fusion procedure, his fourth back surgery in three years.

The 41-year-old is second to Jack Nicklaus for the most all-time major victories.
