Tseng ties for third after 2 rounds at HanaBank event

TAIPEI--The world's top-ranked female golfer Yani Tseng was in third place with a two-round total of 7-under 137 at the LPGA HanaBank Championship in South Korea on Saturday.

The 23-year-old Taiwanese, who is seeking to defend her title at the event, lost some stability on the front nine. She hit three bogeys in the sixth, eighth and ninth holes after firing two birdies.

But on the back nine, she hit three birdies, which allowed her to card two-under 70 on Saturday.

Tseng, who was tied with Se Ri-pak of South Korea and Sandra Gal of Germany, was one shot behind South Korean So Yeon-ryu and six shots behind Norwegian Suzann Pettersen.

Pettersen shot a course-record 9-under 63 in the first round to beat Tseng's score of 65 set last year.

On Saturday, the Norwegian fired off five birdies and hit only one bogey, which put her in the lead after two rounds with 13-under 131.

Last year, Tseng finished 14-under 202, beating Na Yeon Choi of South Korea by one shot. She was the second Taiwanese to capture the title in 10 years, following a victory by Candie Kung in 2008.
