LPGA legend Wright wins USGA award

NEW YORK -- Mickey Wright, an American golf star in the 1950s and 1960s who won a record 82 LPGA titles, was named on Wednesday to receive the 2010 Bob Jones Award from the U.S. Golf Association (USGA).

The U.S. sanctioning body's highest honor, awarded since 1955, will be presented on February 6 at the USGA's annual meeting in Pinehurst, North Carolina.

“It's very nice to be remembered,” said Wright. “It means a lot that they think enough of me to give me the award.”

Wright, 74, won 13 major women's titles and over a 12-month span in 1961 and 1962 held all four LPGA major titles, the only person with that distinction.
