Japan's Ishikawa to play in HSBC Champions event

TOKYO -- Japanese teenager Ryo Ishikawa will take on world number one Tiger Woods at next month's HSBC Champions tournament in Shanghai after getting permission to play from his sponsors.

The 18-year-old Ishikawa was due to contest a much smaller tournament on the Japan Golf Tour, where he currently leads the tour of merit, on the same Nov. 5-8 weekend.

But he was cleared by his sponsors to travel to China for the more prestigious event and confirmed his participation on Thursday.

The US$7 million Champions tournament has been included on the World Golf Championship event for the first time this year and will take place at the Sheshan International Golf Club from Nov. 5 and boasts a stellar field headed by Woods.
