Mavs guard Felton slapped with four-game ban

NEW YORK -- The National Basketball Association slapped Raymond Felton with a four-game suspension on Thursday after the Dallas Mavericks guard pleaded guilty to gun charges in July.

Felton will miss the first four games of the 2014-15 season following his guilty plea which is connected to a February arrest when he was a member of the New York Knicks.

He will also have to perform 500 hours of community service and was handed a US$5,000 fine.

"Today we were made aware of Raymond Felton's suspension," Mavericks owner Mark Cuban said. "The Mavericks are working with Raymond and the court to develop a community service program that will have a positive and lasting impact."

The Mavericks acquired Felton in a trade with New York in June. Just two days before the deal, Felton reached a plea agreement with prosecutors to avoid jail time.

Felton was charged in February with possession of a firearm after he turned himself in to authorities after a game against the Mavericks.
