Lakers' Dwight Howard fined US$35,000 for foulAFP NEW YORK -- Los Angeles Lakers center Dwight Howard has been fined US$35,000 for a flagrant foul against Kenneth Faried of Denver, the NBA said Thursday.
December 29, 2012, 12:05 am TWN Howard was ejected in the third quarter of the Lakers' loss to the Nuggets on Wednesday after making contact with the head of a driving Faried. Howard clearly felt the ejection was an overreaction. “It was a hard foul, that's all I know,” Howard said after the game. “I've been fouled harder than that before and nobody ever got kicked out of the game for it, but I get penalized for fouling people hard.” NBA Executive Vice President Stu Jackson announced the fine in a statement saying Howard “made excessive contact with Faried above the shoulders.” Howard avoided a suspension, good news for a Lakers team that revealed on Thursday that Spain's Pau Gasol has been diagnosed with plantar fasciitis in his right foot. The team said Gasol, who recently missed eight games with tendonitis in his knees, will play despite the often painful inflammatory condition.Howard, who was traded to the Lakers in a blockbuster off-season deal, is averaging 17.5 points and 11.8 rebounds in his first season with the team.
