Rockets score first home victory to end losing streak

TAIPEI--The Houston Rockets ended their three-game losing streak with their first home victory Saturday, defeating the Detroit Pistons 96-82.

The Rockets, which have been drawing great attention in Taiwan since they acquired Jeremy Lin in a three-year, US$25 million deal in the preseason, finally scored their first win in their third game at the Toyota Center this season.

Lin, the first NBA player of Taiwanese descent, passed eight assists, recorded four rebounds and one steal and had no turnovers. But his shooting seemed not to have improved, as he finished with 2-for-7, plus a three-pointer, for seven points.

The two teams were locked in a tight play early in the game, with the Pistons trailing by only six points by halftime.

The Pistons closed the gap slightly to four points with five minutes left in the third quarter, but a run led by Lin's passing skills and James Harden's shooting opened up a 69-56 lead that the Rockets would never relinquish.

"It felt good to finally see a couple (shots) go in ... Finally, they went in, and you (breathe) a sigh of relief," Harden was quoted as saying about the decisive third quarter, on his team's website.

In the final quarter, the Rockets extended their lead to 28 points.

"It's nice to win like this ... nice to get everybody on the floor, nice to move the ball, and win the way we want. I thought today it was a great team," Lin, 24, said after the game.

The loss was the Pistons' final game of their six-game road trip. The team has not won a game since its season opener on Oct. 31 and its 0-7 record equaled to the franchise's worst start in the 1979-80 season.
