He then showed some of the explosiveness that carried him to the rookie of the year award last season. He had no trouble penetrating and delivered some dizzying spin moves that drew roars from the crowd, showing no signs of the right ankle pain that had bothered him for the past few weeks. He had plenty of help, and Chicago pulled away in the second half despite Tim Duncan's 28 points and 16 rebounds for the Spurs. Denver 97, Portland 94 At Portland, Oregon, Carmelo Anthony scored 19 of his 41 points in the fourth quarter as Denver took advantage of Portland's trouble at the free-throw line. Greg Oden missed a pair of free throws with 4.6 seconds left, squandering a chance for Portland to go ahead. After Oden's misses, Anthony made a pair and Brandon Roy missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer for the final margin. Roy finished with 33 points for the Blazers. The game was slowed considerably by fouls.
