Jeter leads New York Yankees over Boston Red Sox 6-4

BOSTON, Massachusetts -- Derek Jeter had a two-run double, Mark Teixeira hit a solo homer and New York's bullpen worked 4 1-3 solid innings, leading the Yankees to a 6-4 victory over the Boston Red Sox on Saturday.

Stephen Drew, acquired from the Red Sox on Thursday, added an RBI double as the Yankees won for just the second time in six games.

Mike Napoli had a two-run homer for the Red Sox, who won the series opener but have dropped nine of 11.

Shawn Kelley (2-3) pitched 1 1-3 innings of hitless relief for the win and David Robertson got the final three outs for his 28th save. Four Yankees relievers held the Red Sox to one run.

Allen Webster (1-1) couldn't overcome his wildness and was pulled after giving up four runs. He walked six, fanned one and allowed two hits in 2 2-3 innings.

New York starter Shane Greene was lifted with two on and two outs in the fifth before he could qualify for the win. He gave up six hits and three runs, striking out five and walking two.

Trailing 3-0 in the third, the Yankees capitalized on five walks by Webster to score the four runs on two hits. Jeter sliced a drive down the right-field line for his double, Carlos Beltran had an RBI single and Jacoby Ellsbury a run-scoring grounder.

Teixeira's homer cleared the Green Monster seats to make it 5-3 in the fifth.

Jon Lester won his Oakland debut while pitching into the seventh inning and Jonny Gomes got two hits during an eight-run burst in his return to the Athletics as they beat the Kansas City Royals 8-3.

Two days after being traded from the sagging World Series champion Red Sox, Lester and Gomes teamed up to boost the club with the best record in baseball.

Back with the AL West-leading A's, Gomes delivered in an eight-run fifth inning. He singled and scored off Jason Vargas (8-5), then hit a hit a two-run single off Aaron Crow.

Lester (11-7) gave up three runs and nine hits, walking one and striking out three.

Miguel Cabrera, Victor Martinez and J.D. Martinez homered and the Detroit Tigers beat the Colorado Rockies 11-5.

Alex Avila had three hits and drove in two runs and Ian Kinsler three hits and an RBI for the Tigers, who scored in all eight innings they batted, had 16 hits and got at least a hit from each batter in the starting lineup.

Rick Porcello (13-5) got the win to tie teammate Max Scherzer for the American League lead in victories. He struck out a season-high 10 and allowed two runs and five hits in eight innings, walking two.

Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer, Dustin Ackley had a solo shot and the Seattle Mariners got an effective outing from their bullpen in a 6-3 victory over the AL-East leading Baltimore Orioles.

In other games, the New York Mets beat the San Francisco Giants 4-2, the Miami Marlins clinched a 2-1 victory over the Cincinnati Reds and the Minnesota Twins rallied past the Chicago White Sox 8-6.

Also, the Houston Astros downed the Toronto Blue Jays 8-2, the Tampa Bay Rays beat the L.A. Angels 10-3 and the Washington Nationals routed the Philadelphia Phillies 11-0.
