Yankees score 2 in 13th inning to send the Cubs packing 4-2

CHICAGO -- Brendan Ryan scored off a wild pitch before John Ryan Murphy capped a two-run 13th inning with an RBI single as New York beat the Cubs 4-2 after Chicago wasted another dominant start by Jeff Samardzija.

New York scored two in the ninth against Hector Rondon in the interleague matchup to wipe out a 2-0 deficit. Samardzija pitched four-hit ball over seven innings.

Ryan started the winning rally with a leadoff single against Jose Veras (0-1). Yangervis Solarte walked, and the runners moved up on a sacrifice bunt by Preston Claiborne (2-0) toward third.

Ryan came home when Veras threw a pitch over Murphy's head, and Murphy drove in Solarte with a single to right to make it 4-2. The Yankees had runners on second and third with two out when Derek Jeter grounded out to end the rally.

Asdrubal Cabrera scored off Al Alburquerque's bases-loaded balk in the 13th inning in the American League to give the Cleveland Indians an 11-10 victory over the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday.

Alex Avila's two-out home run in the top of the inning put Detroit ahead, but the Indians scored twice for their second walk-off win in the three-game sweep.

Mike Aviles led off with a single against Phil Coke (0-1) and took second on Michael Bourn's sacrifice. After Asdrubal Cabrera was hit by a pitch, Michael Brantley lined a single to left for his fourth hit that scored Aviles, who slid home before Rajai Davis' throw.

After a groundout, Alburquerque relieved and pinch-hitter Yan Gomes was walked intentionally to load the bases. Ryan Raburn took the first pitch for a ball. As Alburquerque went into his stretch, he appeared to move his leg and then stopped, and was called for the balk.

In the National League, Alfredo Simon settled down after a poor start and came back after a 61-minute rain delay to win his sixth game, allowing one run over seven innings in the Cincinnati Reds' 2-1 victory over the Washington Nationals.

Simon gave up a leadoff homer to Denard Span in the first, worked out of a jam in the second, then allowed only three more baserunners as the Reds finished a road trip by taking two of three from Washington.

Brandon Phillips and Brayan Pena had RBI singles in the fourth against Tanner Roark (3-2), who allowed six hits and two runs — one unearned — over six innings for the National.

In other NL games, the Milwaukee Brewers downed the Atlanta Braves 6-1, the San Francisco Giants defeated the Colorado Rockies 5-1, the Miami Marlines trounced the Philadelphia Phillies 14-5, the Los Angeles Dodgers edged the New York Mets 4-3 and the St. Louis Cardinals were 3-2 winners over the Arizona Diamondbacks 3-2 over 12 innings.

In the AL, the Texas Rangers held out the Seattle Mariners 5-3, the Toronto Blues Jays beat the Boston Red Sox 6-4, the Kansas City Royals downed the Chicago White Sox 3-1, the Oakland Athletics edged the Tampa Bay Rays 3-2 and the Los Angeles Angels defeated the Houston Astros 2-1.

The Pittsburgh Pirates slipped past the Baltimore Orioles 9-8 in the other interleague game.
