Martinez homer gives Tigers 7-6 win over Dodgers

LOS ANGELES -- Detroit's Victor Martinez hit a leadoff home run in the 10th inning to give the Tigers a 7-6 win at the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday and rescue his closer who gave up a big lead.

Elsewhere, Washington opened up a one-game lead atop the National League East by beating Miami, Colorado produced a big eighth inning to overwhelm the Chicago White Sox and Ryan Braun again led Milwaukee over Philadelphia.

Detroit closer Joe Nathan blew a three-run lead in the ninth inning but was bailed out by Martinez, who drove a 2-2 pitch off Kenley Jansen beyond right-center.

It was the second night running Martinez had produced a clutch hit against Jansen, having tied the score with two outs in the ninth on Tuesday.

Washington's Jayson Werth hit a go-ahead grand slam in the eighth inning as the Nationals beat Miami 10-7.

Werth's homer off Carlos Marmol followed Bryce Harper's three-run homer that started a comeback from an early 5-0 deficit. It was the first homer of the season for both.

Marmol (0-1) loaded the bases with one out, allowing a single, hitting a batter, and issuing an intentional walk before Werth's homer.

Colorado's D.J. LeMahieu's two-run single broke a tie in a six-run eighth inning that lifted the Rockies to a 10-4 win over the White Sox.

LeMahieu finished with three hits, including an RBI double in the sixth that tied the game 4-4.

Rex Brothers (1-0) got two outs in the eighth to take the win.

Milwaukee notched its fifth-straight victory by winning 9-4 at Philadelphia, with Ryan Braun hitting a two-run triple during a four-run eighth inning rally.

Carlos Gomez and Mark Reynolds homered and Jean Segura doubled and drove in a run for Milwaukee, which has won all five games of the streak on the road.
