Gentry powers Rangers to win over Red Sox

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Texas' Craig Gentry had an infield hit that produced two runs and later hit a two-run homer as the Rangers beat the Boston Red Sox 5-1 on Saturday.

The Rangers broke a 1-1 tie and went ahead to stay on the speedy Gentry's infield hit in the fourth. He added his first homer in the eighth.

Elsewhere, Phil Hughes pitched the New York Yankees past Oakland, Stephen Strasburg too was in command to guide Washington past Pittsburgh, and Jon Jay drove in the winner as St. Louis edged Milwaukee.

San Francisco's Guillermo Quiroz homered in the 10th to give the Giants a second-straight walkoff win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, Steve Pearce also drove in a 10th-inning winner for Baltimore against the Los Angeles Angels and Colorado's bats hummed in a comfortable win over Tampa Bay.

Texas' Alexi Ogando (3-2) pitched into the seventh inning for his first victory in five starts and the AL West-leading Rangers (19-11) clinched the series against the Red Sox (20-10), who still have the best record in the majors even after losing the first two games.

New York's Phil Hughes pitched eight shutout innings for his first win of the season as the Yankees beat Oakland 4-2.

Hughes (1-2) struck out nine and outpitched his former New York teammate Bartolo Colon, who gave up two homers and suffered his first loss of the season.

Washington's Stephen Strasburg struck out eight in seven innings and the Nationals edged Pittsburgh 5-4 — winning a game their ace started for the first time since opening day.

Strasburg, though, remained winless since his first start, allowing five hits.

Tyler Moore hit a go-ahead sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning.

St. Louis' Jon Jay homered and drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth to give the Cardinals a 7-6 win over the Milwaukee Brewers.

In the ninth, Shane Robinson singled to center and took second on a fielding error. Robinson stole third and scored when Jay singled up the middle.

Jay hit a three-run home run in the second, Allen Craig connected for a solo shot in the sixth and Daniel Descalso put the Cardinals ahead with a two-run homer in the seventh.

San Francisco pinch hitter Guillermo Quiroz homered with one out in the 10th inning to again give the Giants a walkoff against the L.A. Dodgers, winning 10-9.
