Nationals' Wang to return to Taiwan before hip rehab: report

Nationals manager Davey Johnson has expressed hope that Wang will recover enough to start his rehab when he returns to the U.S. from Taiwan, the Washington Post reported.

The report said the 32-year-old pitched a bullpen session under the supervision of pitching coach Steve McCatty a day earlier to work on his arm.

The Nationals announced July 3 that Wang had been placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, after his personal trainer noticed something wrong with his pitching movements.

Wang has struggled since returning to the majors in late May after recovering from a hamstring injury suffered during spring training. He lost three of his four starts after being inserted into the starting rotation May 30, and was moved back to the bullpen June 20.

He has given up six earned runs and eight hits over three innings in two relief appearances since then and has a whopping ERA of 7.61 — the highest on his team.
