Indians 4, Yankees 1 In Cleveland, Josh Tomlin won on his major league debut, taking a shutout into the eighth inning as Cleveland beat New York.

Tomlin outpitched former Indians ace C.C. Sabathia (13-4), handing the Yankees starter his first loss in 12 starts. Tomlin (1-0) gave up one run and lasted until allowing a leadoff double in the eighth.

Alex Rodriguez remains stuck on 599 career homers after going 0 for 4 on his 35th birthday. He had one more chance at hitting his 600th with two outs in the ninth inning, but ground into a forceout to end the game.

Twins 11, Royals 2 In Kansas City, Danny Valencia drove in three runs as Minnesota completed the worst three-day pitching span in Kansas City history.
