Bailey wins AL rookie award; Coghlan is winner in the NL

NEW YORK -- Oakland Athletics closer Andrew Bailey was named American League Rookie of the Year while Florida Marlins outfielder Chris Coghlan won the National League award announced on Monday.

Bailey, 25, emerged as Oakland's closer early in the season and registered 26 saves with a 1.84 earned run average.

The 24-year-old Coghlan batted .321, scored 84 runs and logged an on-base percentage of .390.

Coughlan received a total of 105 points, 11 better than Philadelphia Phillies pitcher J.A. Happ, the only player named on all ballots.
