TAIPEI-- A wall painted for lovers in Dalin Township in Chiayi County was unveiled yesterday as part of an initiative to build the township into a destination for those in love, township officials said.

The wall was painted by 14 volunteers from Taiwan and Japan who came to Dalin Township, which sounds like “darling” in English, for a 10-day program to provide care to local senior citizens and build a zone exclusively for lovers, officials said.

In addition to the wall, the volunteers created a garden for couples, who now have the option to plant roses to wish for a everlasting relationship, said Lin Po-hua, a community counselor from Hondao Senior Citizen's Welfare Foundation, which jointly launched the program with the Dalin Township.

The program is inspired by a group of elderly people who circled around Taiwan on their motorcycles and is aimed at spreading the spirit of remaining “young at heart” internationally, Lin said.
