From now on, cyclists can put anti-theft identification numbers on their bicycles and register for a specific code which is used to help owners find lost bikes.

Bicycle theft rates remain high. Due to advancement in technology, a quality lock can no longer completely prevent bikes from being stolen. In an effort to reduce the risk of bikes being stolen and cut the number of bicycle thefts, police stations nationwide began providing the labeling service on May 26 last year.

“Putting anti-theft identification codes on scooters and motorcycles has proved to be effective to cut down theft rates,” a spokesperson for the MOI said. “Therefore, we intend to apply the same measure on bikes.”

MOI is promoting this new anti-forgery, anti-theft and rip-proof label with an identification number that aims to help owners to identify their bikes. Cyclists are encouraged to apply for the label and register for a code at their nearest police station.
