British envoy urges joint green technology cooperation TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The top British envoy to Taiwan has called on companies in Taiwan to work with their British counterparts, which are driving a revolution in green technology in the communications industry, to tap into the enormous market of green wireless communications technology. David Campbell, director of the Taipei-based British Trade and Culture Office (BTCO), said at a seminar held recently in Taipei that the UK has been a leader in the global low carbon economy and industry and owns many important low carbon telecommunications technologies, according to a BTCO press release. Campbell noted that Taiwan enjoys the advantage of having many world-class technology operators, and said if Taiwanese companies can further collaborate with the U.K. in terms of technology advancement, they would be able to seize business opportunities in the low carbon industry, which is estimated to be worth over 3 trillion British pounds (US$4.9 trillion). The seminar, titled “U.K.: Green Wireless Technology Communication -- Future Trends and Technology, “ was held on Nov. 26. Noted British experts at the seminar shared how the UK government and British companies have been applying advanced technologies to wireless communications and reducing carbon emissions. The green approach in the UK has ranged across telecommunications infrastructure, equipment, components and recyclable waste, according to the BTCO. It has allowed some UK companies to successfully lower carbon emissions by 58 percent and power consumption by 60-70 percent, which has benefited operators, end-users and the environment, according to the BTCO press release. The BTCO said Taiwan is of strategic importance in the research and development and exporting of wireless communications products and more suppliers in Taiwan are increasingly aware of low carbon regulations and understand global consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious. “The UK's leading position and extensive experience in green wireless communications can support Taiwan's industry and exports in meeting international regulations for green products and manufacturing,” the BTCO said. |
