Central America coffee to be showcased at expo TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Arabica beans from Central America will be among the highlights of the Taipei Tea, Coffee and Wine Expo 2009 slated to open Nov. 20 at Taipei World Trade Center. With its rich natural resources and favorable climate, Central America has been the source of some of the best quality coffee in the world. The region's subtropical weather, fertile soil, ample sunlight, fresh air and relatively perfect temperature range of 15 degrees Celcius to 25 degrees Celcius all contribute to the perfect environment for coffee growing. El Salvador is among of the stars at the Central America Booths of the Expo (C700, 702, 799, 801, 899-902). The El Salvador Foreign Ministry will team up with El Salvador foreign trade authorities and coffee association to showcase the latest information on El Salvador's coffee industry and its best coffee plantations. Thanks to changes in the global taste, El Salvador is seeing an increase of high-end coffee production from 3 percent of global total coffee production in 2003 to 25 percent in 2009. Thirty-nine percent of the coffee exported by the country in 2009 were high-end coffees responsible for export revenue of US$98.7 million. A briefing on El Salvador coffee business opportunities will be held on Nov. 23 at the Conference Room 2 at the WTC. On the same day, World Coffee Master Challenges will invite TBC, El Salvador coffee specialists and the 2007 Latte Art champion to show off their skills in Hall 1 of the WTC. |
