Qualcomm sees rebound, extends Samsung license SAN FRANCISCO -- Qualcomm Inc., the world's biggest maker of mobile-phone chips, predicted a return to sales growth this quarter and said it signed Samsung Electronics Co. to a new 15-year technology license. While the company is on course to report its first year- over-year revenue gain in the fiscal first quarter ending in December, demand isn't recovering as quickly as it did in prior recessions, Chief Financial Officer Bill Keitel said. “The rebound isn't quite as strong as it was in the past,” Keitel said in a telephone interview. Revenue will be US$2.55 billion to US$2.75 billion in the fiscal first quarter, Qualcomm said Wednesday. That compares with the US$2.84 billion predicted by analysts in a Bloomberg survey. Qualcomm's results are an indicator of the confidence in demand from phone makers, which order the company's chips ahead of other components. |
