Taiwan businesses invest in Guangzhou animation park TAIPEI, Taiwan -- Nine Taiwanese companies in the animation and comics industry struck a deal yesterday to invest a combined total of NT$500 million (US$15.36 million) in an animation industry park being constructed in the city of Guangzhou, in China's Guangdong Province. The investment is seen as a move to make inroads into the animation market in Guangzhou, which is the third-largest city in China in terms of economic power, according to officials of the semi-official Taiwan External Trade Development Council. The deal was sealed at a Taipei Guangzhou economic and trade cooperation forum that opened earlier in the day at the Taipei International Convention Center. Zheng Kaizhang, chairman of the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade's Guangzhou branch, expressed hope at the forum that the two sides of the Taiwan Strait will cooperate with each other in the promotion of the animation industry. He was part of a high-profile 185-member trade and economic delegation from Guangzhou led by Guangzhou Deputy Mayor Li Rongcan. |
