After her high profile withdrawal from the Taitung County magistrate race, incumbent Taitung County Magistrate Kuang Li-jen registered to run in KMT's primary for the Legislative Yuan vacancy left by KMT Legislator Huang Jian-ting.

Since Huang had resigned from his post to run for Kuang's current position, DPP questioned if KMT arranged a swap between Kuang and Huang.

DPP lawmaker Gao Jyh-peng urged Justice Minister Wang Ching-feng to check into possible KMT violation of laws governing the election of public officials.

In response to DPP accusations, KMT whip Lu Hsueh-chang admitted that it is awkward to have Kuang as the only registered candidate at the moment, but it does not mean KMT was behind any type of back-room deals.

Taitung County district prosecutors have launched an investigation into possible law violations, said Feng Cheng, lead prosecutor for Taitung County.
