Suspect Chou, 21, was charged with two counts of arson in Dounan district Oct. 12, burning down three scooters in total. Both the victims were affected by Typhoon Morakot who were hired as temporary workers by the government.

Chou confessed to the police that her motivation for committing arson was to replace her co-workers' positions as she was hired for only one month (from Sep. 6 to Oct. 5) as a short-term worker, while the other two signed six-month contracts. “They couldn't go to work if I burn down their vehicles; then I can replace them,” said Chou to police.

Yunlin police arrested Chou with the help of video recordings and empty bottles that she had left behind at the crime scene.
