The foundation recently completed a survey of 42 brands of milk powder for adults, finding all the brands have failed to indicate the milk content rate.

After conducting a further examination, the foundation found that such milk products as Wei Chuan and Red Bull flavored milk powder, Fernleaf milk powder, and Anlene milk powder posted milk content rate of 55 to 71 percent, with the remainder being sugar solution, maltodextrin or other additives.

Hsu Hwi-yu, director of nutrition division of the John Tung Foundation, noted that if the milk content rate of milk powder is lower than 90 percent, then the calcium content will decline accordingly.

Meanwhile, Chairman King Hui-ming of the Taiwan Dietitians Association also called for the government to revise relevant rules and regulations to have suppliers clearly indicate the milk content rate and ingredients of their milk powder products.
