The man, a Hsinchu City resident surnamed --u, was an experienced rider who rode around the island several times. When --u was riding to visit his son in Taichung with his wife yesterday, they were hit by an SUV, according to officials.

The SUV driver, a woman surnamed Han, allegedly told the police that she saw in the rearview mirror that more than 10 heavy motorcycles riding alongside the couple, and after the motorcycles passed, she heard a crashing noise. She stopped and got out, and found the couple injured on the road and called the police immediately.
