Deaflympics were organized well With interest, I read your Sept. 13 editorial about the 2009 Deaflympics in Taipei. I do not know much about Taiwan political life and conditions but I can truly say on behalf of all deaf participants in these Deaflympics that we have all been overwhelmed at the resources that the Taiwan government put into this event. These are the absolutely best organized and powerful Deaflympics that I have ever taken part in and I have been in quite a lot of them. For myself, the basketball event run by the Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CBTA) was perfectly organized thanks to the CTBA coordinator, Ms. Gloria Wang's, efforts, and efficient and powerful work supported by Mr Jen-Seng Wang, Executive-General of CTBA and all the assistants and referees. Today, September 14, we are really looking forward to the final games of the basketball competition. I do not know much about the other sports events but I am yet to meet anyone who is dissatisfied with the organization, the hotels, the Taiwanese food and the whole event. The opening ceremony was magnificent and of course you can always discuss the need of spending so much money on this instead of the sports events but most of us this time felt it was equal to the regular Olympic Games' opening event. To the Taiwanese people: Thank you so much for two wonderful weeks of always meeting smiling and open people in the streets, willing to try to learn our sign-language and culture. Keep up with your good work! |
