TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A two-month old girl breastfed by her mother suffered from constipation, and almost went into a medical shock due to allergic reactions to her mother's seafood-rich diet. Li Min-chun, a doctor with the pediatrics department at Taichung's Tzu Chi Hospital said that the girl was admitted to the hospital's emergency room after she arrived with a swollen stomach, discolored lips and skin, and stiff limbs.

An ---ray revealed that her intestines were blocked. Dr. Li said that it was unusual for a breast-fed infant to suffer from such allergic reactions, and further enquiries revealed that her mother had a frequent habit of eating seafood hotpots.

Dr. Li said the girl's condition has since improved, and advised that mothers who breast-feed infants less than six-months old should avoid eating shellfish.
