SEF official to visit Northern China, seek investment TAIPEI, Taiwan -- A Taiwan official from a semi-official agency in charge of cross-Taiwan Strait exchanges is scheduled to visit regions adjacent to the Bohai Sea in northern China from July 5-11 to seek Chinese investments for Taiwan. Kao Koong-lian, secretary-general of the Straits Exchange Foundation (SEF), said Friday that apart from encouraging Chinese enterprises to invest in Taiwan, he will also help to set up cooperation channels for companies on the two sides and will explore feasible opportunities for Taiwan businessmen. Kao will lead a delegation to visit Qingdao in the northern Shandong Province and Shenyang and Dalian in the northeastern Liaoning Province. "I will explain to Chinese businesses the investment process and the areas in which they are permitted to invest," he said. Meanwhile, Taiwan's market exploration efforts in China will shift to China's northeastern regions around the Bohai Sea, the central provinces and the Beijing and Tianjin areas, Kao said. "The aim is to help Taiwan businesspeople adapt to the investment climate in China and to call on the Chinese authorities to pay attention to the problems these businesses face," he added. Over the past year, SEF personnel have held several seminars for Taiwan businessmen in the Yangzhe River Delta, Pearl River Delta and coastal areas of Fujian Province, where there are higher concentrations of businesses from Taiwan, he noted. Kao's trip to China will be the first of its kind since Taiwan's Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on June 30 Taiwan's initial opening up to investment from China and a set of relevant regulations. |
