No decision to make on top prosecutor: President Ma TAIPEI, Taiwan -- President Ma Ying-jeou has stressed that he is not in a position to decide the fate of the nations' top prosecutor, despite mounting calls from critics for his removal. It is the Justice Ministry that can decide whether Prosecutor General Chen Tsung-ming should be removed, Ma said. Ma said he is not trying to avoid sparking controversies, but as president he cannot interfere with a personnel matter that only the Justice Ministry has authority over. Critics have been calling for Chen's head over his alleged reluctance to prosecute former President Chen Shui-bian for corruption. |
