KAOHSIUNG, Taiwan -- Over 20 percent of the tickets available for the 2009 World Games in Kaohsiung have been sold, including all of the tickets available for the opening ceremony, according to the city's Tourism Bureau.

Bureau Director Lin Kun-shan said that as of Wednesday morning, 79,119 tickets have been sold, leaving nearly 300,000 available. Of those sold, nearly half were for the 11-day sports festival's opening and closing ceremony.

To promote ticket sales, the bureau has invited enterprises and civil groups to purchase tickets to entertain their employees and customers, Lin said.

A total of 370,000 tickets are available for the World Games, to be held July 16-26. According to organizers, 95 percent of the tickets available for boules, lifesaving, orienteering and climbing have been sold.

However, fewer than 10 percent of the tickets for events such as roller sports, flying disc, dancesport, beach handball and tchoukball have been sold, Lin added.

Prices for the World Games tickets range between NT$75 (US$2.27) and NT$900.
