DENVER -- The Weekly Standard magazine has been sold to a Denver-based media company owned by billionaire Phil Anschutz.

Clarity Media Group said Wednesday Anschutz was buying the conservative magazine from Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Anschutz's media company also publishes two daily tabloid newspapers under the Examiner name, the Washington Examiner and the San Francisco Examiner. The company also runs Examiner Web sites in 90 cities.

In a statement, Weekly Standard editor William Kristol praised Murdoch but said the magazine was pleased to join the Anschutz group.

Clarity Media spokesman Jim Monaghan said there are no plans to change the magazine's staff or content.
