TAITUNG, Taiwan -- A Daily Air jet flying from Taitung to Orchid Island (Lanyu) aborted its flight during take-off yesterday morning due to engine troubles. Preliminary investigations suggest that a bird was sucked into one of the jet's turbines. No one was injured, and all fourteen passengers were put on another flight shortly afterwards.

The plane, which began its scheduled take-off at 10:35 a.m., is being examined to ascertain the cause of the incident. Blood stains were found in one of the turbines, suggesting that a bird was caught inside, said Kuo Chung-hua, head of Taitung's Fong Nien Airport.

In a separate incident yesterday, a Uni Air flight from Taitung to Taipei Songshan Airport aborted its scheduled take-off at 10:20 a.m. due to suspected malfunctions with the plane. The suspicions proved unfounded after a maintenance check and the jet took-off twenty minutes after its scheduled take-off.
