"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is crude, rude and shamelessly dirty. Director and writer Kevin Smith, who won acclaim with "Chasing Amy," has given us a movie that should be popped on the same smut-filled mantelpiece belonging to "Superbad," or "The 40 Year Old Virgin."

Seth Rogen is Zack Brown, who isn't earning enough at coffee shop `Bean-N-Gone' to pay the bills. His best friend and roommate, Miriam Linky, played by Elizabeth Banks, is in the same financially dire situation. With unpaid bills mounting, they set off to their high school reunion, which turns out to be a life changing experience for both of them. Miri is set on bedding her high school crush, Bobby Long (Brandon Routh); however, she soon finds out that he is gay. Not only is he gay, but he appears in gay porn for a living. Zack has the pleasure of meeting his boyfriend, Brandon St. Randy, played hilariously by Justin Long. After the reunion, they return home to find their electricity, heating and water all cut off. Broke and destitute, Zack is inspired by their encounter with the gay porn actors. He suggests that they, too, should make a porno in order to make a few quick bucks, which would then help eliminate their financial woes.

With financial support from Bean-N-Gone employee turned movie producer Delaney (Craig Robinson), it isn't too long before they're holding auditions for cast and crew members. In the end the team includes ice-hockey player Deacon, who becomes director, lapdancer Stacey, Lester `The Molester', baby faced Barry, Delaney, Zack, Miri and Bubbles, who takes her name from a naughty trick she performs with bubble mix at bachelor parties.

The name of their movie is "Star Whores," with characters including Hung Solo, Darth Vibrator and Princess Lay-Her. However, things do not go quite according to plan, as their movie studio is demolished, along with their set, costumes and equipment.

Back to square one, a new script and location are soon decided upon. Zack and Miri then face the reality that they will have to put their platonic relationship to the test, by having sex together. Not only will it be their first time, but it will also be on camera. Will it change their friendship? Or can they continue on as they did before? These are the questions that plague both of them and the audience.

While there are many laughs and cringe-worthy moments throughout (including an incredibly disturbing defecation scene), the relationship between Zack and Miri is the most interesting and endearing aspect of the movie. Beyond the jokes, it is evident that there are two people who genuinely do care for one another, which is sweet to watch. It is a welcome break from the continual dirt elsewhere in the movie that is dished out, or perhaps thrown out, at the audience.

Banks gives a truly exceptional performance as Miri. She portrays Miri's humor and sensitiveness convincingly. Rogen, however, is once again playing the silly goofy guy who is remarkably reminiscent of his character in "Knocked Up." Funny, but lacking substance.

"Zack and Miri Make a Porno" is predominantly designed to shock and disturb, while still including some heartfelt moments in between. See this movie if you can handle the nudity, jokes, sex scenes and use of dildos. Remember, you have been warned.
