Beckham, Connery used to promote sex drug in China HONG KONG -- Football star David Beckham and actors Sean Connery and Keanu Reeves were Saturday being illicitly used to promote a sex drug in an advert being shown on TV stations around China. Footage of Beckham in action and with his wife Victoria is used in the advert for the Viagra-style pills called USA Selikon with Chinese voices dubbed onto the film to show the AC Milan star apparently endorsing the product. In the 30-second video, Beckham appears to say: "Want to know how I can keep being strong and running on the football field? USA Selikon capsules help me a lot. It's also the secret weapon with which I can satisfy Victoria." A sales manager for the drug manufacturer told Saturday's South China Morning Post in Hong Kong the advertisements had been approved by authorities and broadcast in cities across China. Viewers in China appear to have been taken in by the bogus adverts, with people poking fun at the celebrities on online forums for appearing to be reliant on China-made sexual aids. Brazilian soccer stars Ronaldinho and Ronaldo have in the past discovered footage and image of themselves used to sell computers and throat lozenges in Beijing. |
