PINGTUNG, Taiwan -- A green turtle has been released into the sea by the Kenting National Park Administration Office in southern Taiwan’s Pingtung County as part of efforts to conserve the endangered species.

It was the first time the office has released a green turtle into the sea.

The young green turtle, which was found injured by a hook after mistakenly taking a fishing bait on Nov. 3, was transferred by the office to the county’s National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium for medical treatment.

After two weeks of care, the turtle recovered and was released by the office’s director, Lin Ching, Thursday into the sea off the county.

The green turtle is a large and attractive marine turtle that spends almost its entire life at sea. During the summer months, the female turtles come ashore to nest on some mainland beaches and many offshore islands off northern Australia.
