MANILA -- A pig farmer has been arrested north of Manila for having a large collection of rare birds, government officials said Tuesday. Agents from the National Bureau of Investigation raided a farm owned by pet collector Eugene Koh near the town of Magalang and seized 31 birds and two mammals, Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Joselito Atienza said in a statement.

Among the seized wildlife were 11 Nicobar pigeons, six Philippine hawk eagles and one Philippine eagle owl, all considered vulnerable, or species that face a high risk of extinction in the wild, Atienza added. No information was given on the timing of the raid.
