Ma said that over the last two months since his inauguration, the new administration has adopted a diplomatic approach different from in the past -- consolidating friendship with diplomatic allies on the one hand and cherishing the rapport and partnership with non-allies on the other.

In particular, Ma said, Taiwan will continue to work to strengthen its relations with the European Union, which has made more investments in Taiwan than either the United States or Japan.

In terms of trade links with Hungary, Ma noted that Taiwan now enjoys a trade surplus with the Central European nation and said he hopes Taiwan will import more Hungarian products to balance the bilateral trade.
