Coral polyps in Kenting soon to release eggs: expert PINGTUNG, Taiwan -- The coral polyps living in the seas off the Kenting National Park in Pingtung, southern Taiwan, will release eggs in the next few days, a senior coral reef observer anticipated yesterday. Tsai Yung-teh said he believes the sea creatures will begin to produce eggs hours later in the day, and anticipated the upcoming spawning scale will be small. Tsai is planning to take a dive tonight to observe the expected natural phenomenon, which the experienced diver said takes place once a year in Kenting. Tsai said that after tonight, he would be able to figure out when the spawning will reach its height. Full-moon nights in the lunar month of March have been the typical time for mass spawning in Kenting's corals. Coral spawning is one of the world's most magnificent natural wonders, Tsai said. |
