Journal EBM establishes Asian chapter in Taiwan TAIPEI, Taiwan -- The U.S.-based journal Experimental Biology and Medicine (EBM) has established an Asian chapter at National Cheng Kung University (NCKU) in the southern city of Tainan, marking the first time an international science journal has set up a branch office in Taiwan, senior NCKU officials said yesterday. The opening ceremony of the office was hosted by EBM Editor-in-Chief Steven R. Goodman, NCKU President Michael M.C. Lai and NCKU Professor of Medicine Lei Huan-yao, who also heads the chapter. EBM is a journal published by the Society of Experimental Biology and Medicine, which was founded in 1903 and has 870 members. With the establishment of its Asian chapter, the magazine is now considering the possibility of further expanding its global coverage by forming an additional chapter in Europe. Explaining the need for an Asian chapter, Goodman noted that almost 30 percent of the scientific papers the journal receives come from Asian academics, presenting a need to recruit more editing staff based in Asia, as well as a standing branch office here. |
