Chinese man pleads guilty to turtle-shell smuggling WASHINGTON -- A Chinese man pleaded guilty Thursday to smuggling protected sea turtle shell into the United States, the U.S. Justice department said. Wang Hong, a Chinese national, faces 6-12 months in jail and up to 20,000 dollars in fines for importing four shipments of Hawksbill sea turtle shell and violin bows decorated with the same turtle shell from China in 2006-07, the department said in a statement. He was one of 10 people indicted after an undercover investigation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Eight were arrested on September 6, 2007. |
